Treatment For Navicular Horses Disease

By Kathleen Collins

For all the horse owner, have a healthy animal is the most important thing. If your one was diagnosed with navicular horses disease, the first thing that you need to be aware of is that it is not terminal. As with runners who have trouble with their feet, it doesn t mean they cannot run again, it means they need to take care of their feet, so they can run again. The same applies here.

Vets are there for a reason and it is important to make use of them as often as you can. If you see a problem and notice that it is progressing, don t wait any longer. One of the signs you can look for is whether the horse is trying to avoid their front legs. When you go to the vet, they will probably do an x-ray and other physical assessments to try and figure out what the problem is.

If it is confirmed, you now need to make sure that you have the correct shoes for them to use. These are made specifically for stallions who have problems with their hooves. They are made to fit the hooves on each side and back to front tightly and securely, so that the animal feels secure and is able to land on all sides of their feet and now just the tip to avoid pain.

When the shoes arrive, you need to make sure that when it is on, it allows the hoof to land on the heel fist and then the toe, because this is the right way they should walk. If you see that it doesn t allow for this, it probably needs a trim and you need to send it back. Even better if you can send exact measurements as well as pictures so they makers can see.

As with humans, exercise is important and if you let the injury stand with no help, it can worsen. It will help to ride your horse every day for at least an hour however, this should be controlled, and you have to make sure that they are putting more weight on their hind legs rather than the front. This takes patience and you also need to have experience.

If you don t, the best would be to hire a trainer who can help with these specific injuries. They are skilled and have done this many times before which means that you are leaving your stallion in good hands. They will also make sure that they don t add strain or pressure and can notice signs of pain and I they are tired. This will make sure that there is no further injury.

The other partner that you must have on hand is a vet who specializes in this type of disease. As much as you may think that it is not necessary, it actually is. If you take your horse to someone who can only diagnose rather than treat, then you may have some trouble. You need to have experts close by so that you can seek advice and also rely on them when you need help.

Such ailments are common and can happen at any time which is why you need to make sure that you have the right teams in place, and that you understand what it means and how to cure it.
