Everyone has likely at least heard about a concussion, but chances are great that they do not know all the facts about them. People don't generally treat them as a serious illness, but they are definitely serious. That is why you should see a Tallahassee Chiropractor if you suspect you or someone you know may have one.

Many brain injuries fall under what is called a traumatic brain injury, or TBI. There are many levels of TBI, and a concussion happens to fall into the mildest category. However, do not mistake the mild category for an easy fix, since this is still a blow to the head and must be taken seriously. Any impact, violent moving or jerking of the head can cause one.

Most people make a full recovery within a few days and can go about their daily lives. Be aware though that the symptoms could take a few weeks to go away completely in some cases. Symptoms include memory loss, blurred or impaired vision, confusion or disorientation and trouble concentrating.

Studies have also shown that people who sustain a concussion are more likely susceptible to future concussions with future head injuries. The reason for this is not fully understood but it is believed to be due to the nature of the brain and that while a damaged area can heal nd repair it will be weakened compare to the rest of the brain and will be more easily damaged in the future.

Athletes who play in contact sports like rugby, football and the like are at much more risk than others for these injuries. However, you don't have to be an athlete to suffer from one. If you get into a bike or car accident and hit your head, you may get a concussion. With each new concussion, the symptoms are likely get worse and far more serious.

A medical professional usually assesses about 25 percent of concussions, which simply is not good enough. If you suspect you may have one or someone you love does, you must get them to the hospital. This way, they know they have had one, and can take better care of themselves to lessen the chance of a repeat concussion.
